Sails Trimming

The CYD 2705 navigates best without healing much. The boat is fully loaded at 8kn. The sale plan is considered therefore ideal for Swiss lakes. First Reef of the main is to be installed on CYD 2705 quite early as it does not have an impact on speed and increases confort.

The following table provides an idea of which sails to set according to the wind conditions but factors other than the wind must also be born in mind:

TWS 6 kts | 11.1 Km/h | Light Air to Light Breeze Speed Guide

TWS 8 kts | 14.8 Km/h | Gentle Breeze Speed Guide

TWS 10 kts | 18.5 Km/h | Moderate Breeze 1 Speed Guide

TWS 12 kts | 22.2 Km/h | Moderate Breeze 2 Speed Guide

TWS 14 kts | 26 Km/h Moderate Breeze 3 Speed Guide

TWS 16 kts | 29.6 Km/h | Fresh Breeze Speed Guide -- Reef 1

TWS 20 kts | 37 Km/h | Strong Breeze Speed Guide -- Reef 2

Best positions approaching the windward mark:
Common mistakes:
  • Get to the layline too early (best when 10 to 15 boat lengths)
  • Sail in bed air (avoid the fan effect of crowds on the layline). Sail below the layline and tack to the layine before the "blob"
  • Getting on port in the zone (change of rules on right of way)
  • Short of the layline in traffic

  • Benchmark - have the kite up and field before the bow of the boat passes the windward mark
