CYD 27 ORC | SUI 6116 | Ceccarelli Yacht Design
History
Little Johnka was commissioned by the Polish champion skipper Konrad Smolen and constructed at his yard Stocznia Ustka Boatbuilders Sp. Z.O.O in 2005 (today Caravela Shipyard) in Ustka. Konrad wanted an easy to transport boat to competing under IRC. He noticed the boat Per Elisa, which seemed to win all Quarter Ton races of the time. He found and contacted the designer and asked him to draw a new boat for him. Giovanni Ceccarelli and Juan de Garay designed the boat and sails at the same time that they supported the Americas Cup team +39 Challenge. Their goal was to build a power machine that can be trailed from competition to competition and from spot to spot.
Engineer and Yacht designer and principal designer in two America's Cup challenge with Mascalzone latino in 2003 in New Zealand and with +39 challenge. Winner with CYD design of 11 World Chamiponship IOR, IMS, record of the Centomiglia race in lake of Garda. Designer of many yachts produced one off or in series both sailing and power boats
Juan Garay grew up in Buenos Aires and has been working as a designer for North Sails since 1990. From the America’s Cup to the Olympics and back again, he’s helped sailors win in a wide variety of boats. In 2018 he joined the Luna Rossa America’s Cup team and more recently the Arthemis team
